unscrew the nut and pull out the rod. Probably a plastic pivot ball on the rod sometime the crack or get messed up. HD might have a generic rod replacement kit But not sure. 30 sec to peek at HD and they had this Universal-Ball-Rod-for-Pop-Up-Drains
